The department has 4th and 6th year students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Foreign Students in speciality "Medicine", postgraduate students: internship in the specialties "Neurology", Nursing: "Nursing in Neurology", "Bachelor Nursing" ( 4th year) and "ADN" (2nd year). Training is carried out in accordance with the programs approved by the Central Methodical Cabinet of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Successful implementation of the curriculum is possible due to the powerful clinical base of Communal non-commercial Enterprise "Ternopil Regional Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital" TDC, which includes 5 neurological, as well as emergency departments. The hospital has modern diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation facilities. The peculiarity of the educational process at the department is the method of conducting a practical lesson, which, laying the fundamentals of topical and clinical diagnosis, promotes the formation of clinical thinking in students.

Since 2007, the department used method of a "Single Day" system. In accordance with the new requirements, work programs were created, methodological instructions for practical classes were improved. The pedagogical process is optimized by multimedia accompaniment to lectures (in three languages ​​- Ukrainian, Russian and English), which is updated and replenished annually. The presentations for practical classes include diagrams, charts, drawings, videos, photos according to the topic of the practical class, that allowed to raise teaching to a new level. For the practical orientation of the educational process at the medical and foreign students' faculties, examination protocols of a neurological patient are used, which are the main component of the control of the practical part of the student's work. According to the system of the Single Day "the duration of the practical part is 180 minutes. Thus: - organizational part - 5 minutes (9.00-9.05); - practical work of students: a) mastering the method of research of a patient with neurological pathology (with fixation of the algorithm for establishing topical and clinical diagnosis in workbooks (09.05-10.20); b) work at the patient's bedside - supervision of patients with the studied pathology, mastering practical skills , filling in the protocol of the patient's examination (10.20-11.15); c) independent work of students (11.16-12.00); From 12.30 to 14.00 - a seminar where the main issues of the topic are considered, clinical situations are modeled, situational problems are solved according to the "Step-2" system. Classes are held on the basis of 5 neurological departments and the emergency department. 14.15-15.00. - control of students' knowledge.

Videos for mastering matricular skills "Methods of research of a patient with acute cerebrovascular disease", "Methods of research of a patient with radiculopathy" are posted on the Web . Control of practical skills according to the OSCE system has been introduced.

The department has published: "Methodical recommendations for practical classes in neurology", "Methodical recommendations for students of the medical faculty for independent extracurricular work in neurology", methodical instructions for students and interns "Scheme of the history of the disease in English". Textbooks have been published: for students of the foreign faculty "Neurology in lectures"; for students of the Institute of Nursing "Nursing in Neurology", section in the manual "Family Medicine", section "Neurology" in the monograph "Problems of osteoporosis". CDs "Vascular diseases of the brain and spinal cord" are actively used in the educational process.

Individual student work is a form of organization of the educational process, which involves the creation of conditions for the fullest realization of creative opportunities of students through individual-oriented development of their abilities, research and creative work. Individual classes are held under the guidance of the teacher in extracurricular time on a separate schedule, drawn up by the department, taking into account the needs and capabilities of the student. In pursuance of the decision of the August Academic Council of the University, item 16, the obligatory component of studying the discipline "Neurology" is the individual work of the student. The following types of work are included in the working curriculum: participation in interuniversity competitions and interuniversity and international conferences with the publication of scientific work and receiving a prize - an additional 6 points; participation in intra-university Olympiads and student scientific conferences with the publication of scientific work and receiving a prize - an additional 5 points; participation in interuniversity competitions and interuniversity and international conferences - additional 4 points; participation in intra-university Olympiads and student scientific conferences - additional 3 points; production of schemes, tables, algorithms of diagnostic search - in addition 2 points; essay writing - an additional 1 point is added.

For doctors majoring in Neurology, pre-certification cycles are held twice a year until 2019, since 2011 cycles of thematic improvement have been introduced on the topics: "Vascular pathology of the brain and spinal cord", "Diseases of the peripheral nervous system", since 2020 cycles " Infectious lesions of the nervous system "," Demyelinating diseases of the nervous system ". When studying most theoretical and practical topics, interns and students focus on an in-depth search for new developments using computer information networks, such as the Internet.
